The fragrant water mint grows 12-18" tall with burgundy and green leaves atop burgundy stems. Blooms purple in summer. Requires full sun to partial shade. Water depth-moist to maximum 6".
Myosotis palustris
Water forget-me-not has fragrant, dense clusters of small, bright blue flowers with yellow eyes appearing in early spring. The green foliage grows in sun to shade 8-10" above the water. Water depth-maximum 6".
Myriophyllum aquaticum
Parrot's feather is a good oxygenator and fish spawning habitat in ponds as well as a bog plant. Fast growing with lush, lacy, lime green foliage, it thrives in sun or shade. Water depth-maximum 24".
Nuphar lutea
Spatterdock is a large, robust plant with round to oblong 12" leaves. A good substitute for water lilies in moving water. Sports a 3" yellow cup-shaped flower all summer long with an alcohol aroma. Can be planted up to 2' deep.
Orontium aquaticurn
The golden club is a handsome native of North America. In deep water, the paddle-shaped leaves are a metallic green above and silvery on the undersides. Yellow flower heads appear on curved white spikes. Grows best in 6-15" of water and at least 12" of soil. Not good in pots.
Osmunda regalis
The royal fern is a magnificent specimen plant which grows 3-4' tall with blue-green leaves. It sports interesting brown inflorescences that rise above the foliage. It grows in bogs and moist areas in partial to full shade.
Peltandra virginica
Arrow arum creates attractive clumps of lush, shiny arrow-shaped leaves. Blooms in midsummer with pale green flowers followed by lime green berries. Grows to 20" tall in full sun to slight shade. Water depth-maximum 5".
Phragmites australis 'Candy Stripe'
Candy stripe reed grows in sun to partial shade from 2-3' tall resembling a variegated dwarf bamboo. Thrives in dense colonies along pond edges and bogs. Water depth-maximum 6".
Pontederia cordeta
Pickerel weed grows in sun to partial shade from 2-3' tall with heart or lanced shaped, glossy green leaves. Violet-blue bloom spikes appear from spring through early fall and are good as cut flowers. Thrives in dense colonies along pond edges and bogs. Water depth-maximum 12".
