Acorus calamus

Caltha palustris
Marsh marigold is well worth growing in very damp areas or in garden ponds. In early spring, it flowers profusely with bright yellow, five-petaled flowers. Leaves are dark green and almost round with toothed edges. Grows 12-24" tall.
Eleocharis montevidensis
Spike rush grows up to 12" forming clumps of grassy quills sporting button-like blooms May to October. Requires full sun to partial shade. Grows at pond edge. Water depth-4".
Equisetum hyemale
Horsetail, a very ancient plant growing 32-40" tall, is a decorative plant with dark green, segmented stems. Also called scouring rush because it was used by settlers to clean pots and pans. Grows at pond's edge. Water depth-maximum 6". Requires full sun to partial shade.
Equisetum hyemale var. affine
A shorter and more open version of the common horsetail. Bright green, hollow stems 9"-3' tall. Dramatic accent plant for damp sights. Highly invasive, best grown in containers. Grows at pond edge. Water depth-maximum 2". Requires full sun to partial shade.
Equisetum scirpoides
Dwarf horsetail grows up to 12" tall in attractive clumps of thinner dark green, segmented stems. Grows at pond's edge. Water depth-maximum 4". Requires full sun to partial shade.
